Psychodynamic Counselling (Part One)
This course introduces the main distinguishing features of psychodynamic counselling. Students will learn about the inter-relationship of external and internal worlds, unconscious processes, the significance of the past and repetition in the present. They also learn about transference in the counselling relationship. Students will learn to critically analyse the first counselling session using the psychodynamic approach.

Psychodynamic Counselling (Part Two)
This course builds on Psychodynamic Counselling (Part One) and also covers counter-transference, the significance of time and boundaries, and responses that lead to making interpretations. Students will learn about resistance and defenses and how to record sessions using a psychodynamic structure.

Psychodynamic Counselling (Part Three)
This course builds on Psychodynamic Counselling (Part One and Two). Students will deepen their understandings of transference and counter-transference and the centrality of the counselling relationship. Students will learn about the impact of breaks and endings on the therapeutic relationship. Textbook: Psychodynamic Counselling in Action, Michael Jacobs.
