Margaret Bowater

MA, Dip. Tchng, MNZAP, TSTA, MNZAC

Margaret is a practising psychotherapist, supervisor and dreamworker. She has international qualifications in teaching, supervising and practising Transactional Analysis, and is author of ‘Dreams and Visions - Language of the Spirit’. She enajoys facilitating people's self-understanding, self-worth and inner growth.

   
 

Louise Brand

BA (Hons), M.Sc., MA Psychology and Family Therapy, Systemic Psychotherapist and Researcher

Louise has worked extensively with families, individuals and couples within adult and child mental health services, developing a culturally and ethically sensitive practice incorporating diverse family therapy models with attachment and psychodynamic approaches.  She is currently working as a family therapist for the Eating Disorders Service in Auckland.

Tom Cooper

B.E., Dip. Psychotherapy, Grad. Cert. Mental Health, MNZAC

Tom trained at Spectrum Centre for Psychotherapy in London.  He works in private practice offering counselling, psychotherapy, family therapy and supervision and is a lecturer at MIT.   He has considerable experience working with men, facilitating groups exploring issues such as relationship skills, living without violence and personal growth.

   

Nettie Cullen

BSc. MA(psych), MNZPsS

Nettie, a registered psychologist, lectures in psychology at AUT, and has a private practice. She has extensive experience in crisis intervention in public, private, and not-for-profit contexts. She is particularly interested in the therapeutic potential of relationships and the role of community in recovery from mental health problems.

   

Jason Des Forges

MA(Hons) Philosophy, Grad.Dip.Psych., Grad. Dip. Tchng

Jason has 11 years experience as a counsellor and group facilitator for Youthline and has taught Communication, Psychology and Ethics at tertiary level.  He now works as a primary school teacher.  He is a keen chess and frisbee player and proud husband and father of two young boys.

   

Elaine Dyer

Elaine Dyer is a facilitator and trainer with more than 27 years of experience. Active in social justice, peace and personal growth areas, she brings a wide range of experiences from working as a trainer internationally as well as locally, in the fields of violence prevention, supervision, conflict resolution and group facilitation.

 

 Liz Farrands

MNZAP, Dip. Psychotherapy, Cert. in Supervision, Cert. in Counselling, (HD&TI), ACC Registered

Liz is an Anglican Priest, an experienced psychotherapist and supervisor.  She practices at Mt Albert and in Howick.  From a background in health, occupational therapy, theology, psychotherapy (psychodynamic and psychodrama), and parenting, her interests include the integration of spirituality in the whole life, and 'community' based on justice and interdependence.

 

 

Diana Ferri

MNZAC

Diana is an accredited Family Court Counsellor and Domestic Violence provider.  For the last thirteen years, she has focused on relationship issues and power control dynamics.  Diana has been privileged to share the experiences and journeys of many couples.

 

Kate Fidler

EN., RPN

Kate is a psychiatric nurse.  She has many years of experience in crisis intervention.  Her practice is based on recovery principles and she has a strong belief in community based treatment.  She has been involved in the teaching of risk assessment and safety as well as the Mental Health Act.  Kate works with police and other community agencies to facilitate learning around mental health disorders.

Marta Fisch

BA Psych. (Hons), MEd. (Counselling), MNZAC, ACC accredited

Marta, a family, child and individual therapist in private practice, specializes in an integration of systemic family therapy and attachment theory, child development management counselling, trauma counselling, and play therapy. She also offers supervision/training, and is a member of the Waiheke ‘Living Without Violence Network’.

Jayne Huggard

Jayne holds professional qualifications in nursing, management, education and counselling and is currently completing her Master of Health Science (Palliative Care). She works in the Family Support team at Mercy Hospice Auckland, Te Korowai Atawhai. She has a particular interest in assisting patients and families through their grief, and in providing support for staff.

 

Tim Hurley

Tim has a background in counselling and family therapy in community mental health.  He has a special interest in loss and grief issues in relation to disability, death and dying.  Tim currently works in the Family Support Team at Mercy Hospice Auckland.

 

Jess Jamieson

B.A. Dip. Soc. Sci. (Eng), CQSW (Eng)

Jess is a social worker with an extensive background in care and protection, paediatric oncology and paediatric palliative care.  Jess is currently employed as a social worker in the paediatric palliative care team at Starship Children's Health where she works with children with life-limiting illnesses and their whanau.  Jess as a strong commitment to the bereavement side of her work.

Diane Levy

BS., Dip.Sec.Sch.Tchg., MNZAC

Diane is in private practice as a counsellor, supervisor, family therapist, speaker and author. Her passion is working with parents to help them change their children’s behaviour so that they can enjoy parenting and enjoy their children's company. She is the author of ‘Of Course I Love You .. NOW GO TO YOUR ROOM!’ and ‘They Look so Lovely when they’re Asleep’ and 'Time Out for Tots, Teens and Everyone in Between'.

 

 Judy Lightstone

PhD, MA, MS, Reg. Psychologist

Judy has been specialising in helping women with eating and body image issues for the past 24 years.  She studied with Susie Orbach (author of Fat is a Feminist Issue), Francine Shapiro (founder of EMDR), and Pat Ogden (founder of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy), and has integrated these into an approach she calls "PSI" (PsychoSomatic Integration), which is described in the new book, 'EMDR Solutions II'.

 

Dianne May

Dip. Csllg (Group Skills), MNZAC

Dianne has been working as a Counsellor, Supervisor and Group Facilitator for over fifteen years.  She has trained with psychologist Dr James Carmody, PH.D. from the stress Reduction Programme at the University of Massachusetts.  Dianne has been facilitating Mindfulness Training for seven years and has a commitment to practices which assist her to be fully present for herself and others.

John McAlpine

B. Theol., MNZAP, MNZAC, MNZACPE, MACSD

John is an experienced priest, counsellor, psychotherapist, tutor and Clinical Pastoral Education supervisor. He tutors person-centred counselling and supervision studies for the HD&T Institute; he supervises counsellors, psychotherapists, supervisors, and people engaged in pastoral ministry.

 

Fraser McDonald

MA(Hons), AFNZIM, MNZPS

Raised in the South Pacific, Fraser has interests in cross-cultural issues, conflict resolution, organisational diversity and professional supervision.  He is advisor to the Scope Capacity Building Project (Tinall Foundation) and mentor to CYF's Provider Development Fund.  He also teaches Community Development subjects at Unitec and in the Pacific.  Fraser is the author of "Understanding Polynesians" Series, "Working Together", "Cultural Gains", as well as the author of numerous articles and publications on working in a cross cultural context. 

Aly McNicoll

Aly, Director of the NZ Mentoring Centre, offers leadership mentoring, professional supervision and training for mentors to individuals and organizations in both the business and not-for-profit sectors. She has a background in counselling, facilitation and tutor training and teaches in the UNITEC Graduate Diploma in Not for Profit Management.

 

Estelle Mendelsohn

BA Hons, Reg. Psychologist, Psychodramatist, MNZ Psych. Soc., MANZPA, MACISA, MASTIS

Estelle works to contribute to better communication and greater equity in all areas of relationships, from the intimate to the organisational.  She works particularly in areas of anger management, sexuality, conflict resolution, trauma healing, and the empowerment of refugee women.

 

Judith Morris

BSc., Dip. Tchng, Dip. Social Admin., Dip. Psychiatric Social Work, MSc. (Psychiatric Social Work), MANZASW, MNZAP

Judith works privately as a child therapist, specialising in the application of attachment theory to therapeutic work with children and caregivers. She also works as a social work consultant and trainer for various child-care and family services.

 

Patrick Murray

Reg. Mental Health Nurse, Post Grad. Cert. (Psych), Cert. in CBT, Cert in Dynamic Psychology of Counselling.

Patrick currently works in a Mental Health Crisis Team and Referral Management in Central Auckland.  He has extensive experience in a variety of public health settings having previously worked as a Community Psychiatric Nurse based in GP practice in UK and in a Regional Specialist Unit for Affective Disorders.  Patrick has a background in CBT and counselling.

Mitzi Nairn

MA (Hons)

Mitzi has a background of working on development issues in the community. Former director of the ecumenical ‘Programme to Overcome Racism’, she has experience in running courses and workshops with Pakeha people who want a better understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi, racism and bi-cultural issues.

 

 

Dr Raymond Nairn

PhD

Ray brings experience of efforts to ensure that psychology in New Zealand is taught and practiced in ways that are compatible with our responsibilities to Te Tiriti o Waitangi. He draws upon his training in social psychology, his studies of representations of Maori-Pakeha relations in New Zealand history, and many years experience in community education and action.

 

John O'Connor

BA, LLB, MEd (Counselling) Hons, Dip. Psychosynthesis Counselling, Grad. Dip. Psychotherapy, ACC Approved, MNZAC, MNZAP

A former Director of Youthline (Auckland), John is now a psychotherapist in the Segar House Psychotherapy Programme, a lecturer in the psychotherapy Department at AUT University and a therapist/facilitator/group-worker in private practice.  John has particular experience working with trauma, relationship and sexuality issues, self harm, personality disorders and with young people.

 

 

Diane Piesse

MA (Hons), Dip. Counselling (HD&TI), Post. Grad. Diploma Counselling, Post. Grad. Cert. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, MNZAC, ACC Accredited

Diane has considerable experience as a counsellor in private practice and supervises counsellors, social workers and other health professionals.  She specialises in the areas of trauma and sexual abuse, and their effects on those working in these fields.  She is also a trained sociologist and has a particular interest in issues of power and gender.

 

Gael Rowntree

Cert. Counsellor, Reg. Nurse Cert., Cert. Holistic Psychotherapy, Cert. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Post Grad. Cert. Supervision, MNZAP, ACC Accred.

Gael has practiced psychotherapy for 27 years and has considerable experience in the practice of psychotherapy within mental health systems. She has taught and supervised at AUT in the Masters of Health Science (Psychotherapy Stream). Gael is currently in private practice as psychotherapist and supervisor.

 

Kay Ryan

MHSc., MNZAP., Dip. POP

Kay is a registered psychotherapist with over twenty years experience as a therapist, supervisor and teacher.  She currently works in the Family Support Team at Mercy Hospice, Te Korowai Atawhai, where she assists the dying, their families and staff.  Kay's passion is promoting a process-oriented approach to palliative care.

Isabelle Sherrard

Isabelle is an experienced nurse and was employed in Nursing Education for over twenty years. She has worked as the Conciliator at UNITEC in Auckland and is now self-employed. She believes in the mind-body approach to human life and that an understanding of illness and health is essential when working with troubled people.

Rhyll Stafford

M.Applied Sc., Grad. Dip. Psych. Soc. St., Grad. Dip. Higher E., Cert. Group Work Comp., MNZAC

Rhyll, of MIRA Companions, has a background in social-service work, as counsellor, supervisor, groupworker and trainer.  She teaches for WELTEC, and also supervises, coaches and facilitates community and organisation development projects including team and leadership development programmes in community, public and social services.

Rihi Te Nana

A qualified and experienced teacher, Rihi has an extensive background in Maori education and research and acts as consultant, providing specialist training on Treaty of Waitangi and Bicultural development and dialogue. Currently a Counsellor with Relationship Services Whakawhanaungatanga. Rihi is passionate about counselling and the development of Biculturalism in the profession.

 

Verity Thom

Psychologist, BA (Hons)

A psychologist for 25 years, Verity works in her private practice, Couplework.co.nz and has over a decade of experience helping couples.  She is a relationship specialist and sex therapist whose work is informed by her training with Doctors, David Schnarch and Ruth Morehouse in the Crucible approach.  Verity also "walks the talk" having been a couple for thirty years with two kids.

 

Maria Umali

Ed.D., registered licensed Counsellor and certified Counselling Psychologist from the Philippines.  MICP and Chi Sigma Iota (a counselling honors society based in USA), Prov. Member NZAC

A seasoned counselling practitioner, educator, researcher, supervisor and manager of human services, Maria is currently the Regional Co-Ordinator for Auckland and Domestic Violence Intervention Co-Ordinator of SHAKTI.

Claire Virtue

MSW (Hons), Post Grad. Dip. SW & Social Policy, CQSW, Dip. Soc. Stud., Dip. Psychosynthesis Counselling (NZ), Dip. in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy (NZ), ANZASW, NZAP (provisional member)

Claire is a family therapist and psychotherapist in private practice and provides supervision to health professionals including social workers, counsellors and therapists. She is particularly interested in working with issues of trauma, spirituality and sexual identity.

Dan Walsh

MA (Hons), PG Dip. Clin. Psych., Reg. Psychologist

Dan works as a clinical psychologist for the West Community Team at the Kari Centre, Auckland Hospital.  He has worked in various child and family services as a family therapist, individual therapist with traumatised youth, and CBT therapist for individuals with Anxiety difficulties.

Carol White

Dip. Ed. Guid. & Counselling, Dip. Tchng., Dip. P.E., PG Cert. Cnsllg Supervision

Carol's counselling practice is based on the principles of narrative therapy.  She is on the National Ethics Committee of the NZAC.  Carol manages the Counselling Centre at the University of Auckland.  She does some teaching and has a small counselling and supervision private practice.  She is a Past President and  Life Member of NZAC.

Dale Wiren

Dale is a psychotherapist in private practice with particular experience in working with issues of trauma, spiritual emergency, and the complexities of sexual identity and sexual behaviour in relation to intimacy. Offers supervision. ACC approved.

Colin Wrennall

Dip. Counselling (HD&TI), Alcohol & Drug Counselling (CIT), Snr Psychodrama Trainee, Family Therapist

Colin has worked in both public and private health systems since 1990. His private practice and contracts with the ‘Safe Programme’ and ‘Waitakere Abuse and Trauma Counselling Service’ continue to expand his extensive experience in counselling, psychotherapy, family therapy and supervision.
