Supervision Skills Training

PLEASE NOTE:  YOU MAY DO ONE, SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING COURSES

Good supervision is in increasing demand as more and more caregivers recognise their need for supervision.  Good supervision offers supervisees a regular opportunity to:

  • reflect with an experienced colleague on their work
  • develop skills in self-assessing the quality of their work
  • be encouraged and affirmed in developing their competence
  • discover their growing edges which may affect their responses to their clients
  • steadily gain in knowledge and flexibility of appropriate interventions to assist their clients
  • develop a sound philosophical and ethical basis
  • continue to integrate learning with personal growth

Good supervision ensures healthy, competent workers and satisfied clients.

We offer a series of workshops in five stages, leading to the Supervision Skills Certificate (60 hours seminar, 40 hours self-directed learning including supervising, consulting, being supervised and reading). Each stage is a prerequisite to the next. You must be currently providing supervision for at least one supervisee, preferably more than one, whom you can supervise separately on a regular basis, preferably fortnightly, throughout this training programme. It will be this practice of supervision that will provide grist for reflection and learning.   You may do some or all these workshops. If you have already participated in supervision workshops conducted by John McAlpine, and would like to ask for recognition of this training, please phone John, 09-625 5185.
