Counselling and Family Therapy Diploma Programme

An approved training programme of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors. This programme is designed for part-time study over a period of four to six years. A Certificate of Attendance and Participation is awarded on completion of each Stage.

Stage One: Foundations Certificate in Counselling and Family Therapy

These courses aim to enhance your self-awareness and self-care, your sensitivity to cultural differences, your empathy for others and provide you with frameworks for understanding human development and relationships. They are of value to anyone working in the field of human relationships, including parenting. There are no entry pre-requisites. Simply complete the enrolment form on page 64 and return to the office. If you believe that you have completed a course of equal value to one of our courses named below and wish to apply for recognition of this learning contact the office for the appropriate ‘Recognition of Prior Learning’ Form.

Note: The Stage One courses (below) are offered in two ‘streams’ throughout 2007. One ‘stream’ is taught on Thursday evenings plus approximately one weekend per month; the other ‘stream’ is taught on two weekends per month, with an occasional third weekend. You are encouraged to study within one ‘stream’ but it is permissable to cross between ‘streams’ if necessary.

Stage Two: Certificate in Counselling and Family Therapy

Pre-requisite: Stage One, or equivalent cross-credits. Character references and evidence of previous tertiary-level education are required. Please note that this training is emotionally demanding. Applications close 1 December 2007. Late applications will be considered, but early application is advised, as priority will normally be given in order of receipt. We do, however, retain the right to vary this procedure, as we deem necessary. Contact the office for an application pack. This pack includes the procedure you need to follow should you believe that you have completed a course of equal value to one of our courses named below and wish to apply for recognition of this learning

Stage Three: Certificate in Counselling and Family Therapy

We do, however, retain the right to vary this procedure, as we deem necessary. Contact the office for an application pack. Note: should you choose to spread this Stage over more than one year, you need to re-apply each year.
